Tim O'Brien was born in Worthington, Minnesota in 1946. He went to college at Macalester College and earned is BA in political science. After he graduated he received a draft notice for the Vietnam War. He went and served from 1968 to 1970. Upon returning from the war, he went to graduate school at Harvard University. He has written seven other books, some of which are:
